Director V.K.Prakash's comedy caper is almost like a roller coaster ride, giving you no time to think, until its end credits start rolling. Though with a tighter script, better music and lesser length the film could have been even more entertaining, Gulumaal has some surprises and nice moments which make it a watchable fare.

The Story : Gulumal - the escape movie revolves around Ravi Varma(Kunchako Boban) and Jijo(jayasurya) who are two frauds and Jijo's sister. Jijo is a fraud from childhood and his sister doesn't like his fraud works.

Ravi Varma who is another fraud, who wants to make some money for an important matter. Jijo got impressed by his smartness. Both of them plans a big deal. They get idea from a thief, Bose. Both plans to fool an NRI played by Nedumudi Venu.

What happens next is the plot of the movie which is expected to be a hilarious roller coaster ride.

Among the two leads, it is Kunchacko Boban who has come up with a stronger performance while Jayasurya's style of talking is perhaps his weak point here. The heroine, Mithra Kurien, who plays Jayasurya's sister and Kunchacko's love interest, looks okay in her job. The rest of the cast have limited roles to play and they all have done it pretty well. The visuals by Fouzia Fathima are fairly good and Manu Ramesan's music is okay, at best.

The best thing about the film could be its unconventional narrative style. Take your kids along to the theatres and they will explain better why the film is quite a fun to watch!

The fourth film of Kunchako Boban-Jayasurya combination after Swapnakkoodu, Kilukkam Kilukilukkam and Lollypop is Gulumal. Mithra plays the heroine in the movie.

South indian actress Kaniha in from malayalam movie Big Father

Director Mahesh P. Sreenivasan's My Big Father is about the relationship between a less than two feet tall father and his son, a six-footer. The premise looks interesting but sadly, the surprises end there as well. Melodramatic and predictable to the core, the film could have perhaps worked on stage but it is a tedious watch on screen.

Kunjumon (Ajayakumar aka Guinness Pakru), is too short in height but is an expert in making biryani. By the time his son Albie (Jayaram) grows up as a handsome young man, Kunjumon become rich and starts running a successful catering service. He wanted his son to get married, but Albie would only marry a girl who won't laugh at the sight of his dad.

Soon after he finds the right girl, Ancy (Kaniha), but certain sad things happen just before the marriage and Kunjumon starts behaving like a kid from then on! Now, is the fifty year old man suddenly behaving like a kid after an accident just because he is a dwarf?

If you are confused, those who made the film seem to be rather not too sure about what the nature of the film should be. With crude humour, silly situations and clichéd dialogues, the director and scenarists (Satheesh K Sivan and Suresh Menon) have added every ingredient to make it a hardcore masala entertainer.

Guinness Pakru (earlier known as Unda Pakru and adopted the new name after being featured in the Guinness Book of world Records as the shortest actor to play an adult lead in Vinayan's Adbhuthadweepu) delivers a good performance, in various get ups. With his stubble and flashy outfits, Jayaram looks rather gaudy and repeats everything that he has done in some of his earlier films.

Kaniha, who is riding high in Malayalam looks evidently out-of-place in her brief role. Innocent, Suraj Venjarammood, Salim Kumar and Jagathy Sreekumar tries to be funny with their usual numbers, but fails to impress. Vipin Mohan's camera is okay but the music department (lyrics by Sarath Vayalar and music by Alex Paul) sounds ordinary.

You want to spend more than two hours in the theatre watching an ordinary or even inane drama unfold, without using your logic? Well, go for this one at your own risk please!

Malayalam movie Happy Husbands photo gallery

Saji Surendran, director of the super hit Ivar Vivahithirayal, has started his new family entertainer. The film, aptly titled Happy Husbands, has his favourite heroes - Jayasurya, Jayaram and Indrajith - playing the title roles.

'Happy Husbands is about three good guys and their effervescent wives, played by Bhavana, Vandana, and Samvrutha respectively. One day, a girl played by Reema Kalingal walks into their life and everything goes topsy-turvy,' says Surendran.

Krishna Poojapura has written the script and the film is being produced by Milan Jaleel of Galaxy Films. The shoot began in Kochi on September 1.

Charmi in malayalam movie Aagathan

Dileep is an actor who has 'discovered' many new actresses in the industry. His latest new heroine is Charmi, with whom he's starring in Kamal's new untitled film. The shooting has been on in Ooty since September 4.

Charmi stepped in for Mamta Mohandas, who withdrew claiming she was sick. After a week's search, Kamal and Dileep zeroed in on Charmi because the character needed someone who could pull off glamour. (Charmi made her debut in Malayalam in Vinayan's Katuchemabakam before she became Telugu films' oomph girl.)

'Aagathan is a romantic suspense thriller with a great twist in the end,' said Kamal. 'Sathyaraj plays a retired army, General Harindranath Varma, and is the pivot around which the film revolves. Ex-Bollywood heroine Zarina Wahab plays his wife and Charmi his daughter.'

Aagathan is Sathyaraj's first foray into Malayalam, though he has acted in a lot of Malayalam remakes.

'When Kamal narrated the story to me, I fell in love with my character retired - General Harindranath Varma,' said Sathyaraj. 'The highlight will be my scenes with Dileep, who is a fine actor.

Mammootty's Palery Maanikyam

The makers of the Mammootty movie ‘Palery Maanikyam-Oru Paathira Kolapathainte Katha’ has released today.

Though the prints of the movie are ready, the makers realised that it was a heavy weekend flooded with four other release. And so, to get a good visibility of the pre publicity for this more serious movie, the shift was made though it was acknowledged as due to ''unavoidable circumstances''. The thought of an intense promotion for the next week is also one of the reasons for the shift.

Directed by Renjith, the movie is planned as an investigative thriller with the megastar donning triple roles.

Mammootty impresses Ranjith

Actor Mammootty now has a fan in director Ranjith. The duo joined hands for Palery Manickyam, which will be releasing in December. Ranjith states that Mammootty is always on the lookout to do something different and that the actor doesn’t let go of any opportunities that give him a chance to show off his acting prowess. Mammootty also has no qualms working with debutants; on the contrary, he is always excited to work with newer faces.

Mamootty's Paleri Manikkam, directed by Ranjit is all set for release this month. The film is a period crime thriller of a CBI officer who investigates a case which happened in the late 50's!

The film is based on a story serialised in Mathrubhumi weekly in the early 60's written by T P Rajeevan. It is based on the sensational Manikkam murder case that rocked Kerala during the 50's.

What makes the film interesting is that Mammootty will play a dual role as the CBI officer who re- investigates the case in 2009 and a feudal Muslim landlord who lived in the 50's and was involved in the crime. There is no relationship between both the characters.

The film is being produced by K.V Anoop and Subair under the banner of Varnachitra Big Screen.

Malayalam movie Chemistry actress photos and review

Director Viji Thampy, whose Nammal Thammil was recently released after a long gap, is now getting ready for his next film Chemistry. To be produced by Nagaraj under the banner of Vaishnavi Creations, Chemistry will have five young girls in the key roles.

While Saranya Mohan and Shilpa Bala (Orkkuka Vallappozhum fame) have been finalized, the others are yet to be fixed. Depicting a story of strong bonding between five girls, Chemistry will start rolling by the end of June.

Also in the cast are Mukesh, Manoj K. Jayan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddique, Ashokan and others. Cinematography is by Sanjeev Shankar.

Chemistry movie tells about a group five pupils in a well known school. One day three among them, Gowri, Aleena and Sindhu have committed suicide. This incident annoyed the students, teachers and local people. But nobody including their friends in the group did not know the reason for suicide.

Chemistry is the movie based on friendship among five young girls. It is directed by one of the front line directors of Malayalam Viju Thampy. Though his recent films Krithyam, Satyameva Jayate, Kudumbakodathi did not make good business, he maintains his style and standard of making films. This film has got thriller as its genre, five girls studying in same school and also good friends who always love to make fun and were enjoying their life very much. One sudden morning three girls among the five are found dead, there starts the mystery of story. Even the remaining two friends don’t know the reason behind the death of their friends.

Saranya Mohan and Silpa Bala are playing the roles of heroines, they are the two girls surviving and moving through the story. Akarsh and Midhun are heroes but their roles are not so dominating like the girls. Krishnavijay, Devaki, Drisya are also playing leading roles in film. M.Jaya Chandran is composing music and Bichu Thirumala is doing with lyrics. Sanjeev Sankar is doing cinematography and Vaishnavi creation is producing the film.

Mammootty and Kanika from movie Pazhassi Raja

At the recently held Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, Pazhassi Raja took away the cake. While it received the best movie award, the lead actress of the film, Kanika, got the best actress award. The best direction award went to Hariharan and the best screenplay award to Vasudevan Nair. Resul Pookutty and Amritha Preetham won awards for the best sound while Ilayaraja and Padmapriya were awarded the best music director and a special award respectively.

Malayalam movie Keralotsavam 2009

The shooting of former actor Shankar Panickar’s directorial debut, Keralotsavam 2009, starring Vinu Mohan and Vishnupriya in the lead roles, is completed. The film is about to release soon. The shooting took place at various locations, including an old bungalow at Althara junction near Guruvayur, Thrissur. Keralotsavam 2009 promises to be an entertainer-cum-suspense thriller, produced by Grace International.

Padmanabhan Embranthiri (Nedumudi Venu) has retired from Kerala Kalamandalam and is in the process of starting a cultural group called Kalanikethan and organizing a cultural festival. His daughter Ganga (Vishnupriya), a dancer, helps him. Sandeep Subramaniam (Vinu Mohan), a Kalarippayattu exponent, joins the troupe.

However, the troupe members suspect Sandeep has an ulterior motive in joining the troupe. Sandeep is caught in a quandary when a strong bond blossoms between Ganga and him. Kalabhavan Mani plays a RAW officer who is in charge of an investigation.

Keralotsavam 2009 is produced under the banner of Grace International. Shyam Dharman is the music director. Lyrics are by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma. Screenplay and dialogues have been written by Vinu Narayanan. Others in the cast are Salim Kumar, Kishore Sathya, Sivaji Guruvayur, Prakash and Abhirami Suresh.

Malayalam movie Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja photo gallery

Mammootty’s magnum opus Pazhassi Raja directed by the veteran Hariharan is ready for release worldwide in September. The film has Sarath Kumar playing a parallel role along with Kaniha, Padmapriya, Linda Arsenio, Manoj K Jayan, Suresh Krishna, Jagathy Sreekumar among others.

Pazhassi Raja is considered by many as the first freedom fighter against the British rule. The script was penned by M T Vasudevan Nair who has relied on seversl authentic resources including the Malabar Manual. The film is a tri lingual in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu and will also have Hindi and English versions.

For the Malayalam and Tamil versions Sarath Kumar and Mammootty are dubbing in their own voice. Major highlight of the film is Oscar winner Resul Pookkutty who has done the Sound designing of the film which has music by Ilayaraja.

Megastar Mohanlal’s next film is titled as ‘Angel John’ directed by Jayasurya, the son of famous theatre personality S.L. Puram Sadanandan. Angel John is the second movie to the director Jayasurya. His first film was ‘The Speed Track’ starred by Dileep.

The film has Santhanoo Bhagyaraj in the lead along with Lalu Alex, Ambika, Salim Kumar and others. The film has music by the National Award winning music director Ouseappachan.

Mohanlal appears as Angel John at the interval point of the film and helps the hero Santhanoo overcome all difficulties in his life and emerge a winner. Ace cameraman Ajay Vincent is the lensman for the film.

Maxlab who are distributing the film has slated it as Mohanlal’s big ‘pooja’ release on October 2. The film has enough for the kids and family audiences and is likely to work big time with Kerala audiences.
